Thousands of cricket lovers flocked to Qaddafi Stadium to cheer the two teams

LAHORE: (Web Desk) - Pakistan has defeated the World-XI in the first match of the three-T20 series. Pakistan was put to bat by the World-XI captain Faf du Plesis after winning the toss. Pakistan scored 197 runs with some brilliant contributions by Babar Azam and Shoaib Malik. Ahmed Shahzad also chipped in and the World-XI were set a gigantic target of 198 runs off the 20 overs.

World-XI started off brilliantly with Hashim Amla and Tamim Iqbal sending the bowlers to all sides of the park. However, they both were removed by Rumman Raees in the same over. The skipper, along with Tim Paine, put up some resistance while Grant Elliott and Miller also had a partnership going for a while but all these efforts fell 20 runs short in the end as Pakistan restricted the visitors to 177 for 7, winning the game and leading the three-match series 1 - Nil.

HIGHLIGHTS

World-XI innings

Overs 19.6: FOUR! Another yorker by Hasan Ali finds Sammy s inside edge and it has gone for four. It reduces the margin of victory for Pakistan but they ve won the match by 20 runs.

Overs 19.5: OUT! And an unnecessary runout there. Doesn t change the equation much but Thisara Perera is gone.

Overs 19.2: Brilliant yorker by Hasan Ali has Sammy on his back. This is over now for the World-XI unless Hasan bowls a No Ball in this over.

Overs 19.1: SIX! And Sammy is going after it for sure. First ball of the over has gone for a massive six.

34 required off the last 6 balls.

Overs 18.5: SIX! And again.. This time over the bowler s head for the same result. He doesn t play by the books.

Overs 18.3: SIX! This time he connects and we all know what happens when Sammy connects. Maximum!

Overs 18: World-XI are 151 for 6. Sammy is on the crease and anything can happen anytime with him there but Pakistani bowlers are making it extremely difficult for the West Indian to connect. 47 required off 12 balls.

And Ahmed Shahzad is being trolled now by the Twitterati.

Darren Sammy is now on the crease.

Overs 16.3: OUT! And Elliott is gone. Hehas hit that straight to the covers fielder and Imad Wasim made no mistake there. The kiwi batsman scored 14 runs off 8 balls with the help of two boundaries. 145 for 6.

Overs 16.1: FOUR! Elliott joins the party now. It was full on the pads and he s helped it on its way. 143 for 5 now.

Overs 15.6: FOUR! Another boundary for Perera. He s flicked it brilliantly and again finds the gap where he had found it 2 balls ago.

Overs 15.5: FOUR! And he s powered that one down the wicket as Rumman Raees fails to find the yorker.

Overs 15.4: FOUR! Perera clears his left leg and sends it for the boundary between deep backward square leg and deep midwicket.

Overs 15: World-XI are now in deep trouble as they require another 74 runs off the last 30 balls with 5 wickets in hands. There are big hitters to come still and it can still be turned around. 124 for 5.

Thisara Perera arrives at the crease.

Meanwhile

Overs 14.5: OUT! And this time Shadab has tricked him with the wrong one. Miller came down the wicket again but Shadab sent him the other way and Sarfraz made no mistakes behind the wickets. Miller scored 9 runs off 7 balls and World-XI are now 123 for 5. Shadab is pumped!

Overs 14.4: SIX! And Miller has hit a massive six here. That was hit with enormous power and crossed the boundary quite easily.

Overs 14.2: FOUR! Elliott has reverse swept Shadab here for a boundary.

Grant Elliott has now come to join Miller on the crease.

Look at Rumman s footwork there.

Overs 13.3 OUT! Paine is gone too. That was hit with power and Rumman Raees was standing at the boundary to take it. He couldn t move an inch back, since he was right at the boundary, and he didn t. 108 for 4.

Overs 12.6: FOUR! That s missed by the fine leg that was up and gone for four. 107 for 3.

Miller is the new man in.

Overs 12.3: OUT! Faf tried to hit that over the midwicket boundary for a six but couldn t clear the rope and was caught at the boundary. World XI are now 101 for 3.

Overs 12: It s 100 for 2 and this over has brought the visiting side right back into the game.

Overs 11.6: FOUR! Ohh brilliant! He moves across the wickets now and hits it towards the Fine Leg boundary. The fine leg is back now but couldn t do much about it. 100! up for the visitors.

Overs 11.5: FOUR! And another boundary. This has been a brilliant over so far for the World-XI as Faf has hit another boundary here. This time through the extra cover.

Overs 11.4: SIX! That s hit with some power by the World-XI skipper. He has hit it straight down the ground off

Overs 11.3: FOUR! And he does that again. This time it has connected and the result is the same.

Overs 11.1: FOUR! That s four leg byes. Faf left his wickets exposed and Hasan followed him. The fine leg was up and it has gone for a boundary.

Wasim Bhai is also here.

Overs 10.4: SIX! Paine has hit that out of the park over Shadab Khan s head. Massive!

Overs 10: And we re at the middle of the innings while the World-XI are 68 for two, needing another 130 runs off the last 60 balls.

Overs 9.6: FOUR! That s hit down the line by the skipper Faf du Plesis and crossed the boundary in a blink of an eye.

Overs 9: The World-XI are 60 for 2 and need another 138 runs off the last 11 overs.

Overs 6.1: FOUR! That was a poor delivery by the debutant Faheem Ashraf and Paine has given it the treatment it deserved by flicking it off his ribs for a boundary.

Overs 6: World-XI are 48 for 2 and the game is wide open now.

Overs 5.6: OUT! That s a soft dismissal. Amla was probably in two minds there, ending up slicing it to the covers where Imad Wasim made no mistake and Rumman Raees has removed both the openers in the same over.

Overs 5.4: FOUR! Hashim Amla is in no mood to relent. First ball he faces after the wicket and hits it high over the mid-on fielder for a boundary. 48 for 1.

Overs 5.2 OUT! And that s wicket. Tamim came down the wicket to hit that out of the park but missed it completely. Rumman Raees has hit the stumps to get Pakistan the first breakthrough. It s 43 for 1.

Overs 5.1: FOUR! Tamim has played it down the leg side off his pads for another boundary. World-XI are 43 for no loss.

Overs 4.5: FOUR! Another one. This time he shuffles across the wickets and flicks it off his pads for a boundary. Exceptional timing.

Overs 4.4: FOUR! Hashim Amla has hit that for a boundary. He s in supreme form here.

Overs 3.3: FOUR! Another one. This time over the midwicket boundary for the boundary. They are 27 for no loss now.

Overs 3.2: FOUR! Tamim has smashed through the covers for a boundary. His first.

Overs 3: World-XI are 18 for no loss.

Overs 2.5: SIX! Hashim Amla has hammered this outside the off stump ball over the long on boundary for a six. World-XI are 18 for 0.

Overs 1.3: FOUR! That s called timing. Amla has punched it right of the mid-off for a boundary. Lovely to watch!

Right then, we are back to what is going to be a cracking run chase. The World XI bowling lacked the nip and discipline to cut the run flow but their batting is by no means a second class outfit. Tamim Iqbal and Hashim Amla are walking to the middle, the power play will surely be exciting.

Pakistan innings

Overs 20: Pakistan 197 for 5 set World-XI a target of 198 runs off 20 overs. Pakistan looted 48 runs off the last 48 overs to set World-XI a gigantic total. Will the players from seven different Test playing nations be able to chase this down? We ll get to know shortly.

Overs 19.6: SIX! And Imad Wasim finishes it off in style. That s another six to end the innings and Pakistan sets World-XI a target of 198 runs off 20 overs.

Overs 19.4: SIX! Imad Wasim has picked it off his pads making it a full toss and that s themaximum.

Overs 19.2: OUT! And he s cleaned him up. Malik tried to pull that one too but failed to connect and the ball went through his pads and broke the stumps. Malik scored 38 off 20 balls with four boundaries and two sixes. Pakistan are 182 for 5 with four balls remaining in the innings.

Overs 19.1 SIX! That was a full toss and Malik launched it over midwicket boundary for a six. On his knee, Malik struck it with tremendous power.

Earlier today, Sammy was pushing at the rickshaw and the corwd cheered him

Overs 18.2: FOUR! That s cut through the Point for another boundary by Malik. He is now 26 off 15 balls.

Mexican wave inside the stadium

Overs 17.3: SIX! Malik has sent this slower delivery out of the park over long-off boundary.

Overs 16.6: SINGLE! One run each ball of the over. Pakistan are now 149 for 3.

Wondering which NS the supporter is referring to.

Sarfraz, the captain, has come down to the crease now.

Overs 15.4: OUT! Babar Azam is gone, trying to the clear the boundary rope over the long-on boundary. It didn t come on to the bat properly and was skied in the process. Miller caught it at long-on and Babar left after scoring a great knock of 86 runs off just 52 balls. Pakistan are 142 for 3.

Capacity crowd at Qaddafi Stadium

Overs 12.4: FOUR! It was in the air again but just over Miller at mid-off who jumped as high as he could but couldn t reach the ball. Pakistan are 115 for 1.

Overs 12.2: DROPPED! And it s dropped again. Babar Azam had miscued it trying to go over the mid-off. Miller tried to take the catch running back but only managed to hurt himself a little in the process.

Lala is here too.

Overs 6.2: FOUR! Sloppy fielding by Thisara Perera. Babar Azam pulled it towards the midwicket boundary and Perera tried to stop it with his foot. The ball crossed the boundary, ignoring Perera s funny attempt. #EpicFail

Overs 6.1: FOUR! That s exquisite timing. That was beautifully driven by Babar Azam.

Overs 6: Pakistan are 49 for 1, and the two batsmen are really having a go at the World-XI bowlers at Qaddafi Stadium right now.

And we know Dennis is in love with Pakistan.

Overs 5.2: FOUR! Babar Azam has played a beautiful cover drive off Imran Tahir s bowling. Pakistan 46 for 1.

Overs 4.2: DROPPED! Ahmed Shahzad didn t know what to do and a leading edge to the bowler Ben Cutting almost removed him from the pitch. Ben went for it but it just touched the tips of his fingers. No run.
