India to play Pakistan in final of ICC Champions Trophy 2017

BIRMINGHAM (Dunya News) – Pak-India match has always been one of the greatest sports events of the year and when they face each other in the final of a mega event, it undoubtedly becomes the chiller and a killer and a thriller.

After Pakistan knocked down the favorite English side in the first semi-final, it was rather an easy peasy job for their arch-rivals to qualify for the final as they defeat Bangladesh in the second semi.

India dominanted the proceedings from the very start when they were chasing down a target of 265 in the second semi-final of ICC Champions Trophy. 

At the end of the day, it was India that turned out to be the victors as they convincingly won the second semi-final by nine wickets. 

India chased the required target of 265 runs in the forty first over. 

Earlier, after being asked to bat first in the second semi-final of ICC Champions Trophy 2017 at Edgbaston, Bangladesh were able to score 264 in the allotted overs as both the veteran i.e., Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim were able to score 70 and 61 respectively to help their side in putting a decent total on the board.

India won the toss and decided to field first in the second semifinal of the ICC Champions Trophy against Bangladesh on a fresh looking wicket.

The toss was slightly delayed by light drizzle, therefore, the match also started 10 minutes late at 02:40 PM (PST) at the Edgbast Cricket Ground. The winners of this semifinal will face Pakistan in the final on Sunday at The Oval.

India skipper Virat Kohli said after winning the toss that it looks like a fresh wicket, should stay the same throughout. It s a bit overcast as well - that could play a big role, he said. India have made no change in their team.

Bangladesh captain Mashrafe said he would have liked to bowl too. He added that we want to go further, last 2-3 years we have improved a lot. 2015 World Cup also we went through (the group), this time it s time to go further, he said. Bangladesh are unchanged as well.

Taskin was turning out to be expensive as two boundaries came in his next over and conceding 10 runs as a result.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli became the quickest batsman to reach 8000 runs in ODIs.

The same kind of treatment was received by Shakib Al Hasan in the next over as Kohli and Sharma scored one boundary each in the thirty eighth over.

Kohli was like usual in brilliant touch today as he played a glorious shot of the middle as the width was provided by Sabbir Rahman this time.

The skipper warapped up the proceedings in style as he played nicely towards cover for four more as he remained not out after scoring 96 runs.

It will be the mother of all matches when the two arch-rivals collide in the final of ICC Champions Trophy 2017 and will undoubtedly be the show-stopper of the year.

Mahmudullah went for some punishment in thirty first over as he conceded 10 runs in the thirty first over that included two boundaries.

Mustafizur Rahman too got some punishment as he was first thumped for a boundary by Kohli and later on by Sharma for a maximum of the last delivery.

Both these batsmen were not giving any oppurtunity to bowlers to dominate as Shakib Al Hasan too went for a boundary in the next over.

Rohit Sharma reached to his hundred as he made the chase so easy through his outstanding knock.

A boundary almost in every over was coming for India at this point of time as Sharma yet again thumped Taskin for another boundary.

India were 224 for the loss of one wicket after 35 overs as they need 41 runs of the last 15 overs.

Kohli pulled it nicely towards mid-off of the bowling of Taskin in the twenty ninth over as the ball raced away towards the boundary for four more.

Things were in favor of India as they were moving along quite nicely in pursuit of 265 runs target.

The run rate from the very start was nearing six as both these batsmen didn’t give a chance to Bangladeshi bowlers to put any sort of pressure whatsoever.

India were 188 for the loss of one wicket after 30 overs.

The skipper decided to punish Mustafizur Rahman in the twenty second over as he thumped him for two boundaries in the twenty second over.

Rubel Hossain got some punishment in the next over as he went for three boundaries in the next over.

Sharma was playing quite nicely as he was determint to reach his hundred in this match.

India were crusing to victory in the second semi-final of ICC Champions Trophy.

India were 164 for the loss of one wicket after 25 overs.

If in case India were able to make it through to the final, it will be the second time that the two arch-rivals will clash in the final of mega ICC event. Last time, they played each others in final was back in 2007 in the first T20 World Cup.

Shakib Al Hasan went for some punishment in the sixteenth over as Sharma thumped him for two boundaries this time.

After a couple of good overs thatdidn’t concede thatmuch runs, Rubel Hossain went for some punishment as Sharma muscled him for two consecutive boundaries in the nineteenth over.

Kohli decided to free his arms as he punched away an overpitch from Mustafizur Rahman towards boundary line for four more.

India were 124 for the loss of one wicket after 20 overs.

Both the openers were moving along quite nicely as India continue to dominate most of the proceedings during the match.

Dhawan chose a ball from Robel as he sliced it past the short leg boundary for four more.

After being hit for a boundary in the 15th over, Mashrafe Mortaza came back strongly as he removed the dangerous Dhawan who was caught by Mosaddek Hossain after scoring 46 runs.

India lost their first wicket in chasing down 265 in the second semi final.

Team India were 87 for the loss of one wicket after the first 15 overs as they were moving along steadily towards the target.

Taskin was replaced in the sixth over as Dhawan pulled through backward square leg for a boundary.

Sharma took the charge in the seventh over as he muscled one away towards midwicket for four more.

It was Shikhar Dhawan in the eight over who chose Taskin for punishment in the eighth over as he played two glorious shots for two boundaries and then pulled one away nicley for a maximum.

A total of 16 runs came in the eighth over.

Mashrafe Mortaza came strongly in the ninth over as only four runs came of his over this time.

Rubel also bowled a good first over to concede just three runs.

India were looking strong as they were 63 for no loss after 10 overs.

While chasing the target of 265, the Indian opners seemed to in no pressure whatsoever right from the outset.

Dhawan took the charge in the second over as he thumped Mustafizur Rahman for two consecutive boundaries in the over.

Mustafizur Rahman went for punishment again in the fourth over as Sharman thumped him for three boundaries this time.

Rohit Sharma took the charge in the fifth as he flicked the ball towards midwicket for another boundary.

Mosaddek Hossain departed in the 43rd over as he was caught by Bumrah of his own bowling.

Bumrah came back strongly in the forty fifth over as he cleaned up Mahmudullah as bangladesh lose their seventh wicket and the progress was halted to some extent.

Mashrafe Mortaza in an effort to smash the ball was able to fetch four runs as the ball sailed over the keeper’s head for four more.

Bangladesh were 231 for the loss of seven wickets after 46 overs.

In the forty seventh over an inside edge of Mashrafe Mortaza’s bat flies past Dhoni and raced away towards the boundary for four more.

Taskin also managed to fetch valuable four runs as an inside edge of his bat raced towards the boundary for four more.

Mashrafe Mortaza took the charge in the next over of Bumrah as two consecutve boundaries of the first two deliveries came in the next over.

A total of 10 runs came of the second last over bowled by Bumrah.

Kumar came to bowl the last over as he bowled a good over and conceded just six runs.

Bangladesh managed to score 264 for the loss of seven wickets in the allotted overs.

Mosaddek Hossain spoiled a good over from Jadeja as he cut it behind exceptionally well for four more.

In the thirty ninth over, Ashwin dropped a catch of Mahmudullah as the ball flied towards the third-man and fetched four runs as the spinner wasn’t been able to get a hold on it.

In the fortieth over when one of Dhoni s gloves was on the ground and the throw hit it as Bangladesh was awarded five penalty runs.

Bangladesh were 213 for the loss of five wickets after 42 overs.

Overs 36: Bangladesh 183/5

Shakib too failed to make an impression as he was caught by Dhoni of the bowling of Jadeja after scoring 15 runs.

Bangladesh lost their fourth wicket when the score was 177.

The frustrations for Bangladesh further enhanced when Mushfiqur Rahim also departed in the very next over and was caught by the skipper of the bowling of Jadhav.

Bangladesh were 183 for the loss of five wickets after 36 overs.

The dangerous Tamim showed Ashwin the lesson for the game as he thumped three consecutive boundaries of his bowling in the twenty second over.

Both the batsmen were moving along quite well as Bangladesh were in a comffortable position at half-way stage.

Bangladesh were 142 for the loss of two wickets after 25 overs.

Mushfiqur Rahim reached to his fifty in the twenty seventh over of the game as he batted really exceptionally so far in the game.

Bangladesh suffer a huge blow when the backbone of their batting line departed in the twenty eighth over while missing a slog-sweep of the bowling of Jadhav.

Tamim Iqbal played an exceptional innings of 70 runs.

Bangladesh were 161 for the loss of three wickets after 30 overs.

Tamim hit one down the ground for a maximum in the seventeenth over as he chose Pandeya for punishment this time.

Tamim once again took the charge in the nineteenth over as a top edge of his bat raced away towards the boundary for four more.

Bangladesh were going good as they were 105 for the loss of two wickets after 20 overs.

Both the seniors carried along after the two losses as they were not allowing the Indian batsmen to build any pressure whatsoever.

Bangladesh players wear black armbands in the semi-final against India  in memory of the lives lost in the natural calamity that took place in their country in the last few days.

The strike was rotated at regular intervals and the bad deliveries were put for boundaries by the two veterans of Bangladeshi cricket.
