Shahid Afridi played a brilliant knock as he scored 45 runs off 23 balls

DUBAI (Dunya News) – Peshawar Zalmi beat Quetta Gladiators by two wickets in a close-match that was decided in the last over.

Batting first, Quetta Gladiators were bowled out for 128 runs with Pieterson scoring 41 and Rilee Rossouw adding 38 runs to the scoreboard.In reply, Peshawar Zalmi chased the required target with 4 balls to spare. Shahid Afridi played a brilliant knock as he scored 45 runs of 23 balls while also finishing things off in style with the two boundaries in the last over.

Earlier, Peshawar Zalmi won the toss and elected to bowl first against Quetta Gladiators at Dubai Sports City.

Darren Sammy will be leading Peshawar Zalmi side while Quetta Gladiators would as usual play under the captaincy of Sarfaraz Ahmad.

Peshawar Zalmi played with the same squad while Tymal Mills and Umar Gull have been replaced for Perera and Anwar Ali in Quetta Gladiators side.

Overs 19.2  I  Score 130/8  I  Hasan Ali 8*, Shahid Afridi 45*

Peshawar Zalmi needed 42 runs of the last five overs as Hafeez and Afridi were still on the crease. Mills came in the sixteenth over as he bowled exceptionally well while conceding just two runs and removing Hafeez on the last ball. Afridi hammered one away for a huge six of the bowling of Zulfiqar Babar while bringing a flavour of suspense in the match. A total of nine runs came of Zulfiqar’s seventeenth over.

On the very first ball of the next over, Afridi hammered one straight over the bowler’s head for a boundary. Test of skills for Nawaz as he is bowling to Boom Boom. On the second ball of the over, Afridi hammered one away for a huge six as the bowler seemed to be in great pressure. A total of 13 runs came of the eighteenth over bowled by Muhammad Anwar.

As Afridi is batting and 18 needed of 12 balls, what else can be more exciting for a cricket fan? However, Mills removed Wahab of the third ball of the penultimate over as he was caught behind by the skipper. Hasan Ali smashed one for four more while an outside edge off his bat also soared for a boundary. Hasan produced runs out of nowhere.

Just when Kamran thumped spinners for a few runs, the skipper opted to bring in Mills who bowled with pace and aggression while conceding just 3 runs in the over. The breakthrough that the Quetta side was looking for was provided by Mahmudullah who removed Tamim in the seventh over who was caught behind by the skipper. Samuels pummeled one away over long-on for a huge six in the same over as he comes into bat.

After more than half of their side collapsed so badly while batsmen throwing away their wickets in quick succession, Afridi and Hafeez came to the rescue and scored quick runs after the half-way stage. Hafeez pummeled two boundaries in the eleventh over and one in the twelfth over to gave his side some satisfaction after the horrible collapse.

The spinner bowled economically once again as Zulfiqar Babar and Hasan Khan conceded just six runs as they bowled the thirteenth and fourteenth over the match. Afridi hammered one away for a huge six over straight of the bowling of Muhammad Nawaz just before the time-out.

Meanwhile, Kamran Akmal also departed as he was trapped in front of the wicket by Muhammad Nawaz when he was trying an unsuccessful sweep short. Seemed like Zalmi side lost the script all of a sudden when Shakib Al Hasan got run out on the fourth ball of the same over. The fall of wickets continued after the seventh over as Zalmi side got into deep trouble when Sohaib Maqsood also threw away his wicket while giving away an easy catch to Asad Shafiq at extra cover of the bowling of Mahmudullah.

The match all of a sudden turned into an out of this world phenomenon when the skipper also departed as Zalmi side lost 5 wickets in three overs. OMG!!!!

While defending rather a less total of 128 runs, the start was also not that good for Quetta Gladiators as the left-arm spinner Zulfiqar Babar’s cost his side so many extra runs. A total of 11 runs came of the very first over. Hasan Khan came into ball the second over and bowled exceptionally while conceding just 3 runs in the over.

Zulfiqar bowled the third over of the innings and his second while bowling exceptionally as no runs was scored of his bowling this time. Hasan Khan bowled the fourth over as 8 runs were scored of it. Meanwhile, Kamran Akmal decided to take the charge in the fifth over as he thumped Mahmudullah for a boundary and a huge six in the fifth over. A total of 12 runs came off the sixth over. Tamim gave most of the strike to Kamran in the initial overs.

After the fifteenth over, Muhammad Asghar came into ball and removed KP of the first ball who was caught by Hasan Ali. Skipper Sarfaraz came into bat and started off his innings with aggression while hitting a boundary and a huge six in the same over of Asghar. Fourteen runs and a wicket came of Asghar’s over.

Hasan Ali came into ball in the seventeenth over and bowled with pace and aggression in an effort to slow thing down for the batting side as he gave away just five runs. Umar Gul was also caught by Wahab of his own bowling in the last over of the innings. A run out also came of the last ball of the last over as the Gladiators were restricted to 128 all out after a decent partnership by the two South Africans.

After the half-way stage, Muhammad Asghar came into ball who earlier created trouble for the Quetta side. Rossouw thumped one away toward deep mid-wicket while fetching four runs in the process. Asghar went for 9 runs in the eleventh over.

The left-arm quickie Wahab Riaz bowled with pace and aggression as he conceded 5 runs in the twelfth over. The first time-out was taken after the twelfth over.

After the time-out Shahid Afridi came into bowl as KP tries a reverse sweep of the fourth ball and fetched four runs in the process of doing so. In the next over, Rossouw pummeled one away for a maximum of the first ball of Shakib’s over. However, Shakib came strongly in the same over as he removed Rossouw while he was caught by Hasan Ali at long-on boundary.

Meanwhile, Shahid Afridi bowled the fifteenth over and conceded six runs in the over.

Wahab came into ball in the sixth over and conceded just 5 runs in the over. Meanwhile, Rossouw also joined the party as he thumped Hasan Ali for two consecutive boundaries in the seventh over. Both these South Africans could be really dangerous once they get going. A total of 11 runs came of Hasan Ali’s over.

As Boom Boom Afridi came into ball, he produced some extraordinary spin bowling while coming up with a maiden over at this stage of the game. Pieterson pummeled one away for four more of the first ball of Shakib’s next over. Shakib went away for seven runs in the ninth over.
Rossouw thumped one away for a huge six in Shahid Afridi’s second over as he also for four leg byes in the same over. A total of 12 runs came of the tenth over.

As Quetta Gladiators started their innings, the left-arm spinner Mohammad Asghar bowled an exceptional second over of the innings after Hasan Ali going for just 3 runs in the first. Muhammad Asghar removed both the openers in one overs while conceding just two runs in the process. Hence, the weird spin bowling from Asghar has done the trick for Zalmi.

Shakib came in the third over and bowled exceptionally well while creating confusions for Quetta Gladiators side. Pieterson thumped one away for a boundary as he took the charge in the fourth over of the innings by Asghar. The slow left-arm bowler went for 9 runs in the over.
Pieterson also hit a boundary in Shakib’s over as 8 runs came off the fifth over. Pieterson came to the rescue after Gladiators collapsed in the second over.
