England comprehensively beat Pakistan by 330 runs in second Test
Four match series leveled by 1-1; third Test to be played at Edgbaston on August 3
MANCHESTER (Dunya News) – England on Monday defeated Pakistan by a massive margin of 330 runs in the second Test match played at Old Trafford and leveled the four match series by 1-1, reported Dunya News.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, England put a huge total of 589 runs at the loss of 8 wickets and declared their innings during the second day of play. Joe Root was the star performer for England as he played a magnificent knock of 254 runs whereas skipper Alastair Cook also scored a ton for his side.
Wahab Riaz picked three wickets for the Men in Green. Mohammad Amir and Rahat Ali picked two wickets each. Leg-spinner Yasir Shah was unable to continue his terrific form from the previous match at Lord’s as he took only one wicket in the first innings in the 54 overs he bowled while conceding 213 runs.
Pakistani batsmen were unable to handle the pressure as wickets fell after quick succession. The entire team was bowled out for a low total of 198 runs in the first innings with skipper Misbah being the top-scorer for the side with an individual total of 52 runs.
Chris Woakes was the star-performer for England as he picked 4 wickets whereas Moeen Ali and Ben Stokes took two wickets each. Alastair Cook decided not to enforce the follow-on and England scored another 173 runs with the loss of just one wicket as England gave Pakistan a huge total of 565 runs to chase down.
Pakistani batters again proved to be disappointing as the team was bowled out for a total of 234 runs by England on day four of the final innings of the match. Opener Mohammad Hafeez was the top-scorer of the side with an individual score of 42 runs.
James Anderson, Moeen Ali and Chris Woakes picked three wickets each for England as the hosts easily beat Pakistan by a huge margin of 330 runs. Joe Root was named as Man of the Match for his superb knock in the first innings.
The fourth Test shall be played at Edgbaston, Birmingham, on August 3.
