Power tariff likely to increase after furnace oil price hike

Rs 6 were charged for each unit of electricity in May

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Furnace oil price has risen by Rs 3,700 per tonne within a month and power companies are mulling to hike the tariff, reported Saturday.

Sources privy to the industry stated that locally extracted furnace oil’s price has hit Rs 42,200 from Rs 38,500 while that of imported oil has increased by Rs 1,700 taking the total of a tonne to Rs 37,000.

Experts have said that Rs 6 were charged for each unit of electricity produced using furnace oil in May.

According to them, electricity price would be hiked if ratio of electricity generated through furnace oil to the total production maintains.
