India to supply BrahMos, Astra missiles to Indonesia, India government official says

NEW DELHI (Reuters) – India will supply ‌the BrahMos cruise missile ​system ​and the Astra ⁠air-to-air missile ​to Indonesia, ​an Indian government official said ​on ​Tuesday.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra ‌Modi ⁠is currently on his first ​trip ​to ⁠the Southeast ​Asian nation ​since ⁠2023.

According to Indian media, New Delhi and Jakarta are expected to sign several major strategic, defence and economic pacts, with cooperation spanning missile systems, critical minerals, and maritime infrastructure.

Quoting sources, NDTV said Indonesia showed interest in importing Astra air-to-air missiles as India seemed ready to supplying additional BrahMos missile batteries.

Sources said India would also invest in the manufacturing of steel, nickel and rare earth permanent magnets in Indonesia to strengthen the critical mineral supply chain.
