Summary He added that contacts with Donald Trump are ongoing to ensure the continuation of the ceasefire
BEIRUT (Dunya News) - Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has stated that Lebanon’s negotiations with Israel are independent of the Iran-related situation.
In a statement, the Lebanese president said that, at Lebanon’s request, the intervention of Donald Trump helped pave the way for a ceasefire and the start of negotiations.
He added that contacts with Trump are ongoing to ensure the continuation of the ceasefire.
Aoun further announced that the talks with Israel will be led by former ambassador Simon Karam, who previously served as Lebanon’s envoy to the United States.
It is worth noting that Lebanon entered the conflict on March 2, when the Iran-backed group Hezbollah launched attacks on Israel.

According to Hezbollah, the attacks were carried out in response to the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who was allegedly targeted by Israel on February 28, the first day of the conflict.
Israel has also been accused of repeatedly violating a ceasefire agreement reached in November 2024.
Ongoing Israeli strikes in Lebanon have reportedly resulted in more than 2,000 deaths and displaced over one million people.
