RIO DE JANEIRO (Reuters) – In the build-up to the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30), the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro was illuminated on Saturday night, with projections featuring images of the Amazon rainforest, indigenous peoples, animals, and the flags of Brazil and the State of Para.
This visual display, organised in collaboration with the Government of Pará and the Christ the Redeemer Sanctuary, highlights the Amazon's crucial role in global climate balance.
Scheduled to be held on November 10-21 in the Amazonian port city Belem, the conference is a significant event for Brazil, showcasing both the country's biodiversity and its commitment to addressing climate change.
