Locals in Indias northern Himachal Pradesh state face problems with the fresh snowfall as a consequence of which the water in the supply pipes is frozen.With heavy snowfall in the upper reaches of the state, many places are totally cut off from the state capital, Shimla, forcing people to walk long distances.The tourist bound state of north India would now witness a surge in the number of tourists, as snow has enhanced the beauty of the region.However, with many perks comes some hassle, the hotel industry is facing the brunt of water crisis due to frozen water in the supply pipes.In some hotels, the frozen snow collected in big containers is being heated up with burners to melt it down in order to provide water to their customers.The snowfall is profitable for us, yet is has some consequences as we are facing problems due to lack of water supply.For past three-four days there is no water supply in the region. We have to collect the snow and melt it on gas stove to fulfil our customers needs, said an employee of a hotel, Surinder Arora.According to local media reports the accumulated snow in Shimla measured 94.3 cm.Snowfall in the state is seen as a boon for the tourism and hospitality industry.Mild snowfall in the higher reaches of the Himalayas and rain in the foothills of the state, including Shimla and Kasauli districts, has resulted in a sharp drop in temperatures.
