Departs from Buckingham Palace following his resignation as prime minister
LONDON (Web Desk) – British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak departed from Buckingham Palace following his resignation as prime minister Friday morning, after the Conservative Party suffered staggering losses in the general election.
He left 10 Downing Street after giving his final speech as prime minister, hours suffering a landslide defeat by the left-of-center Labour Party, which will form a government for the first time in 14 years.
Rishi Sunak said he would step aside as Conservative leader once arrangements were made to select his successor, as the party sought to rebuild.
Earlier, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak conceded defeat in the national election, saying the opposition Labour Party had won.
"The Labour Party has won this general election and I have called Sir Keir Starmer to congratulate him on his victory," Sunak said after winning his parliamentary seat in northern England.
"Today, power will change hands in a peaceful and orderly manner, with goodwill on all sides. That is something that should give us all confidence in our country's stability and future."
