30 feared dead in Indian bridge collapse: Police

At least 30 people are feared dead after a foot bridge over a river in northeastern India collapsed.

About 70 people were on the bridge trying to catch a type of insect called the Ghandi puk, eaten by local tribes in the remote state of Arunachal Pradesh, when the bridge gave way, senior police officer K. Aya told AFP by telephone.Authorities have rescued 28 people and recovered three bodies from the Kameng river nearly 370 miles (600 kilometres) from Guwahati, the capital of Assam state.We fear that 30 people, including many women and children, have lost their lives, Aya said.They were all trying to catch the insects and suddenly the bridge collapsed.
