Battles between protesting Chilean students and police continued on Thursday as authorities fired at students with tear gas and a water cannon.The students set up road blocks in the capital Santiago, but police arrived with the water cannon and tear gas to break up the demonstration.Local news outlets estimated there were 300 young people at the protest who planned to take over the Education Ministry building.Clashes between protesting students and police have become commonplace in Chile. Protesting almost daily, students complain that Chiles education system is profit-driven and provides poor instruction.Students claim unpopular President Sebastian Pinera is doing a poor job of distributing wealth from a copper price boom. Pinera, a billionaire businessman who has seen his approval ratings fall dramatically since the protests began, had said he prioritized education in the next years budget.
