(Web Desk) – A magnitude 6.4 earthquake has struck New Zealand's South Island.
According to reports, the quake struck at 9.14 am (local time), about 45 kilometres north of Geraldine at a depth of 10.1 kilometres.
The quake has been felt in Geraldine, Methven, Fairlie, Ashburton, Mount Cook, Timaru, Arthur's Pass, Twizel, Oxford, Hokitika, Waimate, Christchurch, Greymouth, Amberley, Akaroa, Oamaru, Haast and surrounding localities.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand said there were no reports of damage. Civil Defence confirmed that New Zealand does not face a tsunami risk.
