Long-range missiles required to stop Russia from bombing Ukrainian cities, Zelenskiy’s top assistant

Kyiv (Reuters) - Urgent negotiations are taking place between Kyiv and its allies on Ukraine s demands for long-range missiles that it claims are required to stop Russia from bombing Ukrainian cities, according to a top assistant to President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.

As Russian and pro-Moscow forces steadily advance along a portion of the front line, Ukraine has secured pledges of Western combat tanks and is looking for fighter planes to fight back.

We require missiles that will damage their depots in order to significantly decrease the Russian army s primary armament, the artillery it now employs on the front lines, according to presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak, who spoke to Ukraine s Freedom television network. He said there were more than 100 artillery stores on the Crimean Peninsula, which is under Russian control.

"So, to start, discussions have already begun. Second, the speed of the discussions has intensified, "He remarked, declining to elaborate.

Separately, Zelenskiy stated that Ukraine wished to avert Russian assaults on Ukrainian cities and citizens.

Zelenskiy said that Ukraine need the 185-mile-range ATACMS missile, which is produced in the United States (297km). Washington has so far turned down offers to supply the weapon.
