Taiwan braces for Typhoon Nanmadol

Taiwan issued a warning on Sunday as Typhoon Nanmadol approached.

The storm which has left at least seven people dead in the Philippines may bring torrential rains and strong winds.Typhoon Nanmadol is forecast to reach eastern Taiwan on Tuesday, making it the first storm to hit the island this year, the Central Weather Bureau said.It urged the public to stay away from the mountainous and low-lying areas as the typhoon may bring in fierce winds and heavy rains, sparking flash floods and landslides.At 0200 GMT, the typhoon was 160 kilometres (100 miles) southeast of the southernmost tip of Taiwan, the bureau said.It said the storm was packing gusts of 155 kilometres an hour and moving north at eight kilometres an hour.
