Volcanic ash grounds flights in Australia

Dunya News

The volcanic ash erupting from Chile's Puyehue volcano disrupted the flight schedule in Australia.

The volcano started spewing since June 4 and strong winds carried the ash some 9,400 kilometres across the Pacific to Australia and New Zealand.Ash prompted Australia’s national airline, Qantas, and other private airlines to ground some domestic flights to and from Sydney, Canberra and Adelaide after the ash drifted across the Pacific. The Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre in Darwin said a low pressure system had caused the ash cloud to move over Adelaide and towards Australias east coast. The force of the eruption in Chile has eased.Thats raised hopes the situation could be stabilising but experts say flights could be disrupted for months to come.
