Maintenance work of Indian bridge unfinished after 10 years

The poor maintenance and long-pending repair work on Asias longest bridge, Gandhi Setu, in Indias eastern Bihar regularly upsets the traffic situation everyday in capital Patna.The 5.575-kilometre-long bridge that was constructed in May 1982 by the then prime minister Indira Gandhi connects Patna to the rest of Bihar over River Ganges.According to commuters, they are facing a lot of problems. The government has been kept telling that the maintenance work has been going on for the last 10 years, but the repair work is still unfinished.The bridge has also developed numerous cracks due to the unprecedented surge in traffic and lack of maintenance, leading to critical safety issues.
