A Gbagbos aide has also said that the former strong man has been arrested.
Ivory Coasts incumbent leader Laurent Gbagbo has been arrested, a spokeswoman for the forces loyal to his rival presidential claimant, Alassane Ouattara, said on Monday.According to the western news agencies, the forces loyal to Ouattara, have confirmed the arrest of Gbagbo. Earlier, a Gbagbo’s aide had said that Gbagbo was in custody of the French forces. Gbagbo had refused to hand over powers to the opposition leader, Ouattara, after elections in 2010 following which armed struggle had started between the two groups. Thousands of people have been killed in the fighting. After failure of talks with international community, the United Nations had allowed an action against Gbagbo.
