Kazakhstan celebrates Nowruz festival

The Republic of Kazakhstan celebrated the Nowruz festival.

The festival was celebrated with a great variety of large-scale events, marking the first day of spring and the beginning of the year. As the most important and grandest traditional festival in Kazakhstan, Nowruz symbolizes the end of long winter and the coming of warm spring. Crowds of people gathered in the central plaza in Astana, the national capital, to join the festive ceremonies early in the morning. President Nazarbaev of Kazakhstan also came to the plaza to exchange festive greetings with the people.There were gala performances and horsemanship shows. People erected temporary yurts in the plaza to receive visitors.
