Indian government will allocate more funds for tiger conservation.

One of Indias top policymakers said on Thursday that tiger conservation was high priority for the federal government. The Deputy Chairman of Indias Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia told a gathering at an event in New Delhi that more funds could be allocated for tiger conservation. The whole issue of conservation for tigers is very high on priority and its quite possible that we can allocate more, Ahluwalia said. The Jim Corbett national park of Indias northern Uttarakhand state has a tiger population of around 160, which makes it the last and most important bastion of this endangered species in India.Taking into account the last tiger census figure held in 2009-10, which was 1411, wildlife experts say tigers could become extinct in 20 years.
