Egypt: Victory celebration at Tahrir Square goes on

Egyptians were celebrating late into the night at a victory rally in Cairo on Friday,one week after a revolt toppled longtime President Hosni Mubarak, Dunya News reported.

Millions took to the streets around Egypt, with many of them saying they wanted to not only celebrate the fall of Mubaraks government but to honour the hundreds killed and thousands injured in the uprising. At a rally in Cairos Tahrir square, where anti-government protesters gathered for weeks during the uprising, protesters chanted slogans in support of the military that now rules Egypt, but also in support of a swift transition to civilian rule.Egypts military has promised that the constitution will be rewritten to make it more democratic by February 25th, and has scheduled elections for within six months.
