An accident in a construction site in Manila's business district of Makati killed 10 workers, when a platforms 21 storeys plummeted down. Eight workers who were on the platform were killed, along with two others whom they fell on. One was survived with severe fractures. Construction workers face hazardous working conditions in the Philippines, many times scaling heights without proper safety equipment. A probe on the accident would look into whether the electric platform's cable had broken or if the motor malfunctioned. The lift had a maximum capacity of only two to three persons, a fire officer said.
