Different celebrations are continued in Germany to mark 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. On this occasion, tourists thronged to check point Charlie the main symbol of the divide of Germany. Both Soviet Union and the US deployed their tanks alongside the check point during the Cold War. A special ceremony was held in Germany in which US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was presented Freedom Award. Between 1945 and 1961, some three million people moved to the West from Soviet-occupied East Germany and East Berlin. The Wall was built to stop the flood of East Germans to the West, becoming a symbol of their lack of freedom.
