US to shift Afghan war to Pak boarder areas

The US was considering shifting the focus of the Afghan war from Taliban strongholds Kandhahar and Helmend towards the eastern areas bordering Pakistan. According to Britain newspaper Guardian, the US sources said that this step was being taken on the recommendation of the US and NATO commander in Afghanistan Gen Stanley McChrystal. According to the US military officials, Taliban are getting support from Waziristan and they are being provided sanctuary there; number of US forces deployed in these areas was low. In these circumstances, it was inevitable to change the US strategy in Afghanistan, US military officials revealed.
