Libyans have commenced six-day celebrations to mark 40 years of Muammar Gaddafis rule in which the Libyan leader Gaddafi specially participated. Hundreds of thousands of people attended a three-hour showcase event in Tripoli, the capital of Libya. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, and Arab League General Secretary Amr Moussa specially attended the show. The colorful event included horse parade, and various dances on the melodious tunes. All the main roads and markets of the Libya have been decorated and lighted on the occasion. A parade of 1,000 camels and a program of leaving balloon into air have also been organized for the event. The celebrations also included military bands, 400 dancers depicting scenes from Libya's history, aerobatic aeroplanes and fireworks displays. Gaddafi came to power in 1969, overthrowing Libya's then leader, the Western-backed King Idriss.
