Siachen: Pilot killed in Indian armys chopper crash

An Indian army helicopter crashed in the Siachen Glacier area of Jammu and Kashmir.

An Indian Army officer was killed and another injured when the helicopter crashed on the Siachen glacier on Wednesday, the worlds highest battlefield, during a routine supply sortie.The Cheetah Helicopter met with the accident during its routine maintenance sortie. After unloading supplies at the Bheem post on the Northern Glacier, the helicopter took off and crashed within minutes.The two officer-pilots were trying to land the chopper at the Bhim post helipad in northern glacier area at 11.45 a.m. when they lost control of the flying machine and it crashed 400 metres short of the helipad, an officer in the army headquarters said.The pilot was killed and the co-pilot was badly injured. The army is evacuating the injured officer to a military hospital, the officer said.He, however, refused to identify the two pilots immediately.
