Hindus walked over fire as a part of rituals during a festival in Indian state Jharkhand on Thursday
The occasion was ‘Bhakt Poorva’ (devotees festival) celebrated at many places in Jharkhand including the capital city Ranchi city. After Chaitra Navaratri also called as Ram Navratri, the festival is dedicated to the nine forms of Shakti (mother goddess) in the spring season and Bhakt Poorva heralded this auspicious fest.The ritual is dedicated to Hindu lord Shiva and goddess Parvati. Devotees believe lord Shiva fulfills all their wishes and also blesses them with strength to walk fearlessly on fire.“This is the grace of lord Shiva and goddess Parvati on us by which we easily walk barefoot on embers and do not get hurt. We are performing this ritual for last 25 to 30 years. We have full faith in lord Shiva. The divine entities oblige all our wishes,” said Arjun Macchna, a devotee.Devotees also keep fast for five days. “We observe fast for five days for lord Shiva. And to appease the god we walk on bed on burning coal. Nobody gets hurt due to god’s grace, said Sangeeta Devi, a devotee.Devotees have been following the traditions since several ages. The devotees believe that walking bare-foot on fire would get rid of all difficulties and evils of their life.
