ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - In a bid to replace WhatsApp, the National Information Technology Board (NITB) has launched an application titled “Beep Pakistan.”
This first communication application ‘Beep Pakistan’ was introduced on Monday and Federal Minister for IT and Telecom Syed Aminul Haque launched it.
The app will be accessible to the general public after a year.
The Beep Pakistan application is a local version of global voice, text and video sharing platform Whatsapp.
Addressing a ceremony, the minister said the Beep Pakistan would feature document sharing, secured messaging, quick audio, video, and conference calls. He said its data would be hosted in Pakistan ‘securely’ and stored by the National Telecommunication Service (NTC).
Initially, he said, the platform would have a month-long test run and during this time the app would be for all government officers and officials and the NITB would address the needs of the application following feedback. After its successful use at government level, the app will be available for the general public.
He said the application would enhance the productivity of the government employees.
