ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) has introduced ‘i-Live’, the first ICU ventilator produced with national resources in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. The Drug Regulatory Authority Of Pakistan (DRAP) has formally approved the use and manufacturing of this ventilator.

According to a press release issued by PAEC on Wednesday, this ventilator has been prepared by scientists and engineers of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission from local resources in accordance with all the prevailing medical standards.

Doctors of PAEC hospitals also provided valuable guidance in this regard. Apart from rigorous scientific scrutiny, the ventilator has also met the standards of Pakistan Innovation and Technology Center (PITC) and Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC).

The ventilator machine was also tested at Jinnah Hospital Lahore. Many experts, including medical experts, biotechnologists and biomedical engineers, have called the test a success.

Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission spokesman Shahid Riaz Khan said that DRAP has formally approved the use and manufacturing of this ventilator and thus it is the first such ventilator with this approval.

Muhammad Naeem, Head of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, has congratulated the scientists and engineers and expressed confidence that after the final approval of DRAP, large-scale production of ‘i-Live’ would begin so that it can be provided to the patients as soon as possible.
