AGP Javed said that petitioners and stakeholders would be consulted

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Attorney General of Pakistan Khalid Javed Khan on Monday said that the federal government is ready to review social media regulatory rules after consolations relevant stakeholders.

During the hearing of a case against the recently approved social media regulations, Islamabad High Court (IHC) Chief Justice Athar Minallah remarked that it seems that stakeholders were not consulted while making the social media rules.

AGP Javed said that petitioners and stakeholders would be consulted on the matter and that a complete ban or closure of any platform was not the solution.

“Give some time, PTA (Pakistan Telecommunication Authority) and stakeholders will review the rules together,” the AGP further prayed.

To this, Justice Minallah remarked that the attorney general’s response has been very positive and directed to submit a report after consultations between PTA and relevant stakeholders.

The government passed the social media rules last year, despite criticism and protests from human rights activists and organizations.
