Latin American museums shocased online by Google

The project began with 17 galleries in February 2011 and now features 151 museums around the globe.

Google expands its art project into Latin America featuring online tours of ten museums in countries including Brazil, Mexico and Argentina.The project was launched at the Pinacoteca museum in Brazils business capital Sao Paulo, where hundreds of artworks were made available in ultra high-resolution.Like the Brazils Pinacoteca and Modern Art Museum, Internet users will be able to make online visits of other galleries such as Mexicos National Anthropology Museum and Colombias Botero Museum.Using Street View technology to take 360 degree photos of museums, the website also offers viewers a detailed study of selected artworks through a gigapixel zoom application.President of Google Brazil, Fabio Coelho, said it was an opportunity to promote Latin American culture worldwide.We are bringing in ten Latin American museums, of which two are Brazilian. This means we are taking our culture, our art and our peoples history and making it available to the entire world, he said.
