DUBAI (Dunya News) — Traditional rivals Pakistan and India are likely to be placed in the same group for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027, according to media reports, with the highly anticipated fixture expected to be part of the group stage once again.
Despite Pakistan’s unimpressive record against India in World Cup matches, the two teams are expected to be drawn into the same group. Media reports said commercial partners have also made the Pakistan-India fixture a requirement for the group stage.
Pakistan-India encounters remain a major attraction in ICC events and are considered important by broadcasters because of the widespread interest surrounding the rivalry.
The ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 will feature 14 teams and will be played across South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. Under the format announced by the ICC, 12 teams will compete in the main round, divided into two groups of six, with the top teams progressing to the Super 7 stage.
The tournament is scheduled to be held in October and November 2027, with matches to be staged across the three host countries. The ICC has already announced 12 host venues for the tournament.
The official schedule is set to be unveiled in Cape Town, with the event scheduled for 9pm Pakistan Standard Time, according to the report.
