Summary Karachi Kings beat Quetta Gladiators by nine wickets as Warner and Hendricks lead a commanding chase of 196 at Qaddafi Stadium.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Karachi Kings delivered a commanding performance to defeat Quetta Gladiators by nine wickets in a high-scoring encounter at Lahore’s Qaddafi Stadium on Saturday.
Opting to field first after winning the toss, Karachi Kings executed a disciplined bowling display before their batters completed a clinical chase with remarkable composure.
Quetta Gladiators endured a disastrous start to their innings, losing both openers, Ahsan Hussain and Khawaja Nafay, in the very first over without scoring. The early collapse placed immediate pressure on the middle order, forcing a rebuilding effort under challenging circumstances.
Rilee Rossouw and captain Saud Shakeel responded with a crucial partnership that revived the innings. Rossouw led the charge with an impressive 90, combining attacking stroke play with calculated aggression, while Saud Shakeel contributed a steady 57. Together, the pair stitched a vital 148-run stand that brought Quetta back into contention and shifted the momentum after the early setbacks.
Dinesh Chandimal added further impetus towards the end of the innings, scoring a brisk 30 runs to push the total to a competitive 195. However, the lower order failed to capitalise fully, with Hasan Nawaz and Jahandad Khan managing just three runs each before being dismissed.
Karachi Kings’ bowling unit maintained pressure at key moments despite the strong middle-order resistance. Rizwanullah led the attack with three wickets, while Hasan Ali picked up two crucial scalps. Abbas Afridi also chipped in with one wicket to restrict Quetta Gladiators from crossing the 200-run mark.
Chasing a target of 196, Karachi Kings approached the run chase with authority and confidence. The opening pair laid a solid foundation, ensuring there was no early damage similar to their opponents. The batting unit displayed both patience and intent, gradually building momentum throughout the innings.
David Warner played a pivotal role in the chase, scoring a fluent 89 that anchored the innings. His knock was marked by controlled aggression and effective shot selection, keeping the required run rate well within reach. Supporting him strongly, Reeza Hendricks produced an equally impressive performance, contributing 87 runs and forming a match-winning partnership.
The duo’s dominant stand dismantled Quetta’s bowling attack, leaving little opportunity for a comeback. Karachi Kings comfortably reached the target with just one wicket down, underlining their superiority in both departments of the game.
