ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – India secured a remarkable victory against Pakistan in the World Group playoff tie of the Davis Cup doubles category held in Islamabad on Sunday.

In the singles matches held earlier on Saturday, Sriram Balaji defeated Aqeel Khan in straight sets, with a score of 7-5 6-3, while Ramkumar Ramanathan secured victory against Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi with a score of 6-7(3) 7-6(4) 6-0, giving India a promising start.

Reflecting on the victory, Ramanathan expressed his satisfaction, particularly highlighting the challenge of playing in Pakistan. He noted the tactical adjustments made by his opponent, Aisam, during the match but emphasized his determination and enthusiasm throughout the game.

The previous encounter between the two teams occurred in neutral territory in Kazakhstan in 2014, resulting in a 4-0 victory for India. Aisam, acknowledging the significance of the event, expressed his happiness and pride in participating in a match that could potentially contribute to improving relations between India and Pakistan through tennis.

India's captain Zeeshan Ali, whose father was a member of the Indian team in 1964, described the emotional significance of returning to Pakistan for the tie. He recounted his father's previous matches against Pakistan and expressed hope that this event would have a positive impact on both tennis and bilateral relations.
