Forest pull clear of relegation zone with win over Leicester

NOTTINGHAM (Reuters) - A double from Nottingham Forest s Brennan Johnson earned a 2-0 win over Leicester City on Saturday, pulling Steve Cooper s side five points clear of the Premier League relegation zone.

Leicester s Harvey Barnes suffered an afternoon he would rather forget as he spurned a golden chance in each half to give the visitors the lead.

Those misses proved costly as Johnson latched onto Morgan Gibbs-White s through ball before firing Forest into the lead in the 56th minute.

Johnson made sure of the points late on with a fine finish as the hosts made it back-to-back league wins and climbed to 13th on 20 points, three points and two places above Leicester.

"First and foremost, it is a really big win for us and what it means to the fans and for the table," Johnson said.

"At halftime he (Cooper) just said to be better and to increase our intensity and we did that. We know we didn t perform well at the start of the season but we are growing into the game and growing into the league."

Leicester have now lost their last four league games, having suffered six defeats in a row in August and September. It is the first time they have had multiple runs of four or more defeats in the same league campaign since 2014-15.

"We are doing our very best but we have just not been good enough. We have to do our best and we will keep fighting," coach Brendan Rodgers told the BBC.

"On a personal level, I know the game. I came in to do my very best and that s all I will ever do."
