Blackburn beat Barnsley 2-1 at home to go third in the Championship on Wednesday.
LONDON (AFP) - Chile forward Ben Brereton Diaz hit his 20th Championship goal of the season as Blackburn beat Barnsley 2-1 at home to go third on Wednesday.
Blackburn have the same number of points as second-placed Fulham and are just a point behind leaders Bournemouth thanks to Brereton Diaz s cool finish in the 65th minute that proved decisive in a game his side dominated.
Joe Rothwell scored Blackburn s opener in the 24th minute but Barnsley showed fighting spirit to survive the onslaught and equalised through Carlton Morris s deflected shot. It was the first time Blackburn had conceded a goal in nine hours of play.
Brereton Diaz then showed why he will attract so much interest in the upcoming transfer window by sealing the points and a sixth consecutive league victory, racing down the left to meet John Buckley s pass before directing a low drive into the far corner.
Fulham s game at Reading was postponed due to Covid-19 cases in Reading s squad.
