MotoGP: Lorenzo wins pole, eyes race win for Portuguese GP

The Spanish rider Jorge Lorenzo stormed to pole position at the Portuguese Grand Prix.

Yamahas MotoGP world champion Jorge Lorenzo took his first pole position of the season at the Portuguese Grand Prix on Saturday.Lorenzo lapped the Estoril circuit with a fastest lap of one minute 37.161 seconds in the final minutes of the session. Italys Marco Simoncelli, the Gresini Honda rider who dominated Friday practice, was second fastest while Spaniard Dani Pedrosa completed the front row of the starting grid on another Honda.Honda’s Australian rider Casey Stoner was fourth while the six time MotoGP world champion Italian Valentino Rossi will start in ninth place on his Ducati..Lorenzo won the previous race, the Spanish Grand Prix before his home fans at Jerez as he leads the championship after two races with 45 points followed by Pedrosa with 36 points.
