The ICC has reduced the number of teams from 14 to 10 that will participate in the next World Cup.

The ICC awarded England with the hosting rights for the 2019 cricket World Cup. Australia and New Zealand will co-host the 2015 World Cup. The decision was made in the meeting of the ICC Executive Board in Mumbai. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has also reduced the number of teams that will participate in the 2015 and 2019 mega events. Unlike the 2011 World Cup in which 14 teams participated, the next two events will only have 10 teams. The 10 full-members of the ICC will take part in the next two mega events. The new format of the events has not yet been finalised. The round-robin tournament format that was last implemented in the 1992 World Cup is likely to be chosen.
