Sports needs proper attention: Fehmida Mirza
The minister says sports task force will also work with all provinces for the betterment of sports
ISLAMABAD (APP) – Federal Minister for Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC) Dr. Fehmida Mirza Thursday said sports is whole industry which needs proper attention and funds to run, like in foreign countries.
Speaking at the concluding ceremony of the Subh-e-Nau Women’s National Tennis Tournament here at PSB Tennis Courts, she said sports had never been a priority and the funding for sports and players is very less which needs to be increased. “Players are ambassadors of the country and we need to encourage them,” she said.
Dr. Fehmida Mirza said we along with Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) and national sports federations, have to work together for the betterment of sports. “Sports need to be encouraged in schools and at grass roots level. At our times in schools, we use to have two three classes for sports activities like gymnastics etc,” she said.
The minister said the sports task force will also work with all the provinces for the betterment of sports.

“The sports academy will also be revived in collaboration with Higher Education Commission (HEC) so that the coaches and players can be trained well,” she said. She said promotion of sports is the top priority of the Prime Minister. “The more grounds we will have the more talent will come to fore,” she said.
Appreciating the Subh-e-Nau for holding the event, she said women are not behind than men in any field. She also urged the media to play their role in promoting sports.
