(Dunya News) – Like every year, Ferozwala in district Gujranwala hosted the annual tent pegging competition this year too with over a hundred horse riders taking part from across Punjab.

The one-day event which was attended by a large number of people witnessed some spectacular performances by riders hailing from different districts of the province where tent pegging is considered a traditional sport.

As many as 150 horse riders, decked in traditional gear, took part in the games that attracted large crowds. The sport which involves removing a wooden peg fixed in ground using spears while riding a horse requires intense practice, something which participants of the tournament engaged heavily in.

With the beat of dhol in the background, horse riders galloped away as they attempted to collect the pegs inserted in the ground raising dust clouds.

Removing the peg from the ground requires much skill and as the games proceeded some succeeded in the task while others didn’t.

The attendees, who came in to watch their favourite sport, commended the efforts being made to promote it. “This tradition is dying in Punjab and the government isn’t doing much to promote this sport,” said one of the organisers.
