World Cup 2011: Opening ceremony ends

Opening ceremony of the ICC World Cup 2011 has ended in the capital of Bangladesh. The ceremony was started at 5pm local time in Bangabandu Stadium in Dhaka.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina formally opened the tournament. The ceremony started with Bangladesh’s national anthem, then captains of the participating teams entered into the stadium on rickshaws.Ricky Ponting led the captains’ convoy while Bangladesh’s Shakaibul Hassan appeared in the last. First of all, Indian singer Sonu Nigam enthralled the spectators. Then Canadian rock star Bryan Adams entertained the crowd. Singers Shankar, Ehsan and Loy captivated the audience with their song De Ghuma Ke in three languages Hindi, Bengali and English. Around 3,500 performers performed in the opening ceremony depicting Indian, Sri Lankan, and Bangladeshi cultures.
