Football: Trabzonspor sack coach Halilhodzic

Halilhodzic took charge in July after signing a two year contract -- worth 3.3 million euros.
ISTANBUL (AFP) - Turkish side Trabzonspor have fired coach Vahid Halilhodzic after a string of disappointing results, the club announced.
The 61-year-old Bosnian had taken charge in July after signing a two year contract -- worth 3.3 million euros ($4.5 million).
This was his second spell at the club as he had coached Trabzonspor in 2005-2006.
The Black Sea club said in a statement on its website on Saturday that Halilhodzic s "contract was terminated by mutual agreement" without giving further details.
"We thank Vahid Halilhodzic for his services, understanding and devotion and wish him well for the future," it said.
Halilhodzic had previously coached the Algerian national team, guiding them to their first ever run to the World Cup last 16.
He will be paid 1,6 million euros ($2 million) in severance pay for the termination of the remaining months of his contract, Turkish media reported.
The club currently sit in 12th place in the 18-team top-flight Super Lig following eight matches, experiencing their worst ever home season in terms of league wins.
The quality of their football in the European League however drew praise from pundits. The club are in second in their first round group after four matches.
According to Turkish press reports, Halilhodzic will be replaced by Ersun Yanal, who guided Istanbul giants Fenerbahce to the Turkish title last season.
Yanal is rumoured to have signed a one-and-a-half year deal with Trabzonspor worth 1.6 million euros.
