Yachting: Sweden to compete in 2017 America's Cup
French yachting great Peyron says he will be continuing his relationship with Artemis.
STOCKHOLM (AFP) - Sweden will compete in the 2017 America s Cup with Artemis Racing representing them for the second successive time, they announced on Tuesday.
Team chief Torbjorn Tornqvist said that he believed Sweden could win yachting s most prestigious prize in what is one of the oldest competitions in world sport and was first contested in 1851.
"Yachting is my passion and I am proud to be representing Swsden once more," he said.
"I profoundly believe that Artemis Racing is a team capable of winning the America s Cup."
The Artemis crew includes Olympic champions Fredrik, 44, and 24-year-old Max Salminen as well as 59-year-old veteran Rod Davis, who is embarking on his ninth campaign.
French yachting great Peyron, announced back in March that he would be continuing his relationship with Artemis.
The venue for the 2017 edition has yet to be announced with either San Diego or Bermuda the two names on the organisers short list.
The last America s Cup in 2013 resulted in one of the most incredible comebacks in sporting history.
The New Zealand team were 8-1 up over their American rivals and just one win away from taking the trophy only for their opponents to win eight races in a row to win the America s Cup.
