Chebet wins women's title at cross country world championship

Kenya's Emily Chebet regained her IAAF cross country world championship title on Sunday.

 

BYDGOSZCZ (AP) - Chebet clocked 24 minutes, 24 seconds on the 8-kilometer (4.8 mile) course freezing winter temperatures, having also won the race in 2010.

 

Two Ethiopians filled out the podium with Hiwot Ayalew three seconds back in second and Belaynesh Oljira third in 24:33.


Earlier, Kenya s Faith Chepngetich Kipyegon defended her junior women s title, clocking 17:51 in the 6-kilometer (3.6 mile) race. Kenya s Agnes Jebet Tirop was given the same time in second place, and Alemitu Heroye of Ethiopia was six seconds back in third.
