MELBOURNE: Athletics Australia has hired long-time UK Athletics official Simon Nathan as its high performance director.
AA announced the appointment Monday, saying Nathan quit his British post last week and is expected to start work in Australia next month.

Athletics Australia chief executive Dallas O'Brien said a review after the 2012 London Olympics identified the need to create a new role of high performance manager and Nathan had "an impeccable record in the field of international high performance."
He said Nathan had worked with UK Athletics since 2003 and was its team manager at all major senior championships since 2008, including the past two Olympics.
