Hundreds of protesters demanding an end to evictions caused by World Cup projects briefly halted work at the stadium set to host the tournaments opener in 2014.The Homeless Workers Movement said 700 people invaded the construction site at the Itaquerao stadium in Sao Paulo on Wednesday, disrupting work at the venue for two hours.Authorities said the number of protesters was about 300 and the work stoppage lasted nearly 30 minutes.Protests occurred in eight of the 12 host cities, with the most significant act being a brief road block near the Castelao stadium in the northeastern city of Fortaleza.The protesters say the evictions required for some of the World Cup projects go against the local residents right to housing.
