Summary Heavy rain and hailstorms hit several Punjab and KP cities, prompting a rain emergency in Islamabad and Rawalpindi as the Met Department forecasts more rain.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds lashed several cities in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with hailstorms reported in several areas. A rain emergency was declared in Islamabad and Rawalpindi following torrential rainfall.
Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Kohat, Karak, Mianwali and Dunyapur received heavy rain, causing water to accumulate in low-lying areas.
Rain was also reported in Jhang, Chashma, Darya Khan, Kacha Gujrat, Pailan and other areas. In Kundian, rainwater entered homes, while streets and neighbourhoods were flooded.
The rainfall also disrupted electricity supply in several areas after feeders tripped, causing inconvenience to residents.
In Rawalpindi, the WASA managing director said a rain emergency had been declared due to heavy rainfall. All field officers were mobilised, while WASA staff and heavy machinery were deployed in low-lying areas.
According to officials, the water flow in Nullah Lai remained normal, standing at five feet at Kattarian and two feet at the Gawalmandi Bridge.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms in several parts of the country over the next 24 hours.
The Met Department said rain and thunderstorms are expected at isolated places in Islamabad and Kashmir. Heavy rain is also likely at isolated places in Bhakkar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Khushab and Mianwali.
Rain is also expected in Attock, Bahawalnagar, Chakwal, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sargodha, Hafizabad, Jhang, Jhelum, Lahore and other parts of Punjab.
The upper catchment areas of the Ravi and Sutlej rivers may also receive rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms, with isolated heavy showers expected.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain is expected in Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Karak, Lakki Marwat and Tank, while some areas of Gilgit-Baltistan may also receive rain.
Most areas of Sindh and Balochistan are expected to remain hot and dry. The weather in southern and plain areas is likely to remain hot and humid in the coming days, while rain and thunderstorms may continue at some places in upper and central areas.
