Summary Tariq Farooq and Ahmed Raza Qadri take oath as AJK Assembly speaker and deputy speaker after securing 32 votes each.
MUZAFFARABAD (Dunya News) - Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Tariq Farooq and Ahmed Raza Qadri have taken oath as speaker and deputy speaker of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, respectively.
Tariq Farooq was elected speaker after securing 32 votes in the polling held in the AJK Legislative Assembly.
In the deputy speaker’s election, PML-N’s Ahmed Raza Qadri also secured 32 votes, while Amir Ghaffar Lone received 14 votes.
A total of 46 newly elected members of the AJK Legislative Assembly have taken oath.
Following his election, Speaker Chaudhry Tariq Farooq administered the oath of office to Ahmed Raza Qadri during a ceremony held at the Assembly Secretariat. Members of the Legislative Assembly and other relevant officials attended the ceremony.
After taking the oath, Ahmed Raza Qadri formally assumed his responsibilities as deputy speaker.
Speaker Chaudhry Tariq Farooq and other assembly members congratulated the newly elected deputy speaker and expressed their best wishes for his tenure.
Ahmed Raza Qadri reiterated his commitment to performing his responsibilities in accordance with the Constitution, law and the rules and procedures of the assembly.
A day earlier, the PML-N had won six of the eight reserved seats in the AJK Legislative Assembly elections, while the Pakistan Peoples Party secured two seats.
