Summary Polling for special seats of the AJK Legislative Assembly will be held today in Muzaffarabad, with candidates contesting reserved seats for women, technocrats and Ulema.
MUZAFFARABAD (Dunya News) – Polling for the special seats of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly will be held today, with voting taking place at the Assembly Hall in Muzaffarabad.
According to the Election Commission spokesperson, the polling process will begin at 10 a.m. and continue until 1 p.m.
Abdul Rehman Arain has already been elected unopposed to the seat reserved for overseas Kashmiris. Arain had submitted his nomination papers on behalf of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), while the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) could not field a candidate against him.
According to the spokesperson, six candidates are contesting five seats reserved for women. The PML-N had nominated four women candidates, while the PPP had nominated three. However, PPP candidate Shaheen Kausar Dar withdrew her nomination papers.
For the technocrat seat, PPP’s Sahibzada Zulfiqar Ali and PML-N’s Barrister Iftikhar Gilani are contesting against each other.
According to the Election Commission spokesperson, PML-N’s Mazhar Saeed and PPP’s Hafiz Tariq Mahmood are contesting the seat reserved for Ulema and Mashaikh.
