Summary President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir jointly inaugurated the Yadgar-e-Fatah monument in Islamabad on the eve of the Independence Day.
Pakistan is celebrating its 79th Independence Day with patriotic spirit and traditional zeal, as the nation renews its commitment to the ideals of the Pakistan Movement and the vision of building a prosperous Islamic welfare state.
As part of the celebrations, President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir jointly inaugurated the Yadgar-e-Fatah monument in Islamabad on the eve of the Independence Day. The monument commemorates Pakistan’s military victory during the May 2025 conflict with India.
Across the country, Independence Day celebrations are highlighting Pakistan’s cultural heritage, national identity and journey since independence in 1947.
The day begins with a 31-gun salute in Islamabad and 21-gun salutes at provincial capitals. Special prayers are offered in mosques after Fajr for peace, unity, stability and prosperity.
President Zardari is scheduled to hoist the national flag at a ceremony in Islamabad, while similar ceremonies are taking place at provincial, divisional and district headquarters nationwide.
Cities and towns have taken on a festive appearance, with government buildings, streets, markets and public spaces decorated with national flags, buntings and colourful lights.
A variety of activities, including seminars, exhibitions, cultural programmes and other events, have been organised to mark the occasion and remember the sacrifices made by the country’s founders and early generations.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has also released a new national song, “Mera Pyara Watan Pakistan,” for Independence Day. The song focuses on patriotism, love for the country and national unity.
Celebrations are also taking place across Azad Jammu and Kashmir, where the day is being observed with the same patriotic spirit.
In Muzaffarabad, the celebrations are beginning with a 21-gun salute, followed by special prayers for peace, prosperity and solidarity. Prayers are also being offered for the resolution of the Kashmir dispute.
Flag-hoisting ceremonies are being held in districts throughout AJK, while the AJK prime minister is scheduled to lay a wreath at the Shuhada Monument to honour those who lost their lives in the struggle for the region.
The nationwide celebrations reflect Pakistan’s enduring emphasis on national unity, sovereignty and the ideals associated with its independence.
